The science and philosophy behind The 12 Steps of Yoga® has been developed and honed over a lifetime of experience, recovery and yoga by the creator, Cheryl Champagne, MS, E-RYT 500. Cheryl is an active member of the 12 Step community since 1997, a student of yoga since 1994 and a long time faculty member of The Omega Institute for Holistic Studies.

Seeking relief from her active addiction, Cheryl began taking yoga classes in 1994. The challenging asana’s combined with the post savasana “floating on air” feeling peaked her curiosity from the first class. Cheryl continued her personal journey investigating the relationship between yoga and feeling good while not under the influence of a substance for several years. After becoming a certified Forrest Yoga Instructor, she developed classes to share her love of yoga with others in her local recovery community of Brooklyn, New York. Each class provided an opportunity to witness the physical and emotional releases she had experienced with yoga manifest in others, thus laying the foundation for The 12 Steps of Yoga®.

Leading workshops throughout the United States, Caribbean and Central America, Cheryl creates a rich, supportive and powerful learning environment while remaining attentive to individual needs. In addition to being an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher at the 500 hour level, she is a Reiki Master, Conscious Body Method Coach, National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Personal Trainer and holds a Masters of Science degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology.
